Job Description:
Overview:This position is responsible for the federal and state
income tax function, including planning, provisions, returns,
extensions, estimated payments, return to provision adjustments,
and audit defense. Work to achieve maximum tax savings whenever
possible while remaining responsive to changing business needs and
practices. Works with the accounting and leadership teams to
identify opportunities for process improvement and potential areas
of risk. They will monitor current and impending changes to tax
regulation and make the appropriate updates to policies and
strategies.Responsibilities:Prepare quarterly and annual federal
and state tax provision, facilitate providing necessary information
to external tax preparation firm, review all federal and state tax
filings and ensure the accuracy and timely filing of all tax
forms.Ensure accurate and timely filing of state and local sales
and use tax returns. Ensure the accounts payable system is
accurately capturing use tax and external systems are properly
calculating sales tax to remit to the various taxing jurisdictions.
Review the filing of multi state and local returns including sales
and use and personal property tax.Assist property accounting team
to determine if assets capitalized and properly depreciation for
federal and state purposes. Ensure assets are properly classified
to allow Company to accelerate federal bonus depreciation methods,
where applicable. May also assist in working with external parties
on cost segregation studies when new properties are
constructed.Find and implement opportunities for process
improvement in company tax procedures.Federal and state income tax
extensions and estimates, as well as tax payment projections to
support the forecasting and budgeting processes.U.S. Census form
filings using tax return information.Maintain effective control
procedures over all aspects of the tax process. Tax research to
support income tax return positions, develop tax planning ideas,
identify tax savings opportunities, mitigate potential tax risks,
and provide answers to other departments.Developing an
understanding of the tax department's other functions, including
but not limited to sales tax, property tax, annual reports,
business licenses, and other miscellaneous taxes. Identifying
correlations between these functions and the income tax function to
maintain consistency between the information used for each tax
type, and also to recommend improvements in the data gathering
processes. Providing cross-functional support as needed.Manage and
facilitate federal and state tax audits whether income or sales and
use tax by preparing responses, creating supporting schedules,
point of contact for taxing jurisdiction, etc.Monitor legislative
and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of
these developments to management and the tax team and create
strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.Provide
support with various internal audits and special tax related
projects.Review tax returns and quarterly/yearly tax
projections.Qualifications:Education/Licenses/Certifications:Bachelors
degree required, Accounting or related fieldMasters degree
preferred, Accounting or TaxationExtensive
individual/corporate/partnership tax knowledgeStrong knowledge of
tax code, compliance and procedures for corporations.CPA
requiredMST preferredExperience:8+ years Tax or public accountant
role2+ years Supervisor / Management experience
