Job Summary: Promote the concept that social emotional learning has intrinsic value and lays the foundation for academic learning, social success and appropriate behavioral choices.Responsibilities:Conduct professional development regarding the function of behavior and how to develop interventions and strategies that influence positive change.Increase awareness and understanding of the Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) process and its relationship to the development and follow through of effective Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP.)Increase understanding regarding the environments influence on behavior and how to utilize this knowledge to shape positive strategies in the classroom, at home and in the community.Coordinate and oversee alternate learning programs for students based on assessment, sensitivity and behavior intervention planning.Maintain instructor certification for Handle With Care training and conduct trainings as scheduledAssist in the development and support of behavioral, academic and social programs in classrooms and with individual students.Train to be an instructor for Handle with CareConduct Handle with Care training and follow-through.Coordinate Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) process and the development of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP.)Encourage students to attain the highest possible levels of independence regarding behavior.Use and encourage a flexible, individualized approach for a diverse population.Model and teach supportive counseling, problem-solving, contracting and limit setting techniques.Lead the school Positive Behavior Intervention Initiative (PBIS)Daily Operations:Review and assist in screening new student referrals from the Local Education Agencies (LEA).Observe students in and out of classrooms to collect data for the purpose of creating FBA/BIP and recommending.Evidence Based Practice to faculty.Collect and review staff submitted data to inform professional development and individual student/staff planning.Individual Education Plans:Attend IEP meetings as needed.Teacher Duties:Substitute when teachers are out (as needed.)Model appropriate interactions for students and teachers on the team.Demonstrate and support collaborative planning with teachers and assistant teachers on the teamResponse to Behavioral Crises:Support staff and students regarding behaviors crisisCommunication and Professional Development:Maintain cooperative relationships with Center staff, consumers, community agencies, and the public.Communicate with various local agencies and other departments or teams at The Center.Work in cooperation with co-workers and supervisory staff.Deal with team members regarding problems in a constructive manner.Accept and use direction and supervision.Benefit from constructive criticism and participate in developing corrective action plans as needed.Attend trainings, case presentations, and conferences as assigned.Attend mandatory in-service trainings and other trainings as required.Complete record keeping in accordance with Health Information Services (HIS) and other Center requirements and abide by Center confidentiality policy.Provide evaluation, reports and/or progress notes for student records as assignedMonitor confidentiality in accordance with Center policy and legal requirements.Follow required office procedures in a cooperative manner.Initiate and process incident reports as per Center guidelines.Adhere to Infection Control protocols.Complete therapeutic hold and physical restraint reports in accordance with policy.Report any problems in accordance with policy.Maintain cooperative relationships with Center staff, students, families, community agencies and the public.Communicate with various local agencies and other departments or teams at The Center.Work in cooperation with co-workers and supervisory staff.Deal with team members regarding problems in a constructive manner.Accept and use direction and supervison.Benefit from constructive criticism.Attend trainings, case presentations and conferences.Provide feedback to staff on the content of educational programs attended.Attend mandatory inservice trainings and other trainings required.Maintain Handle with Care trainer status.Requirements:EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Masters degree in social work, psychology, education or related field preferred;Experience with Behavioral Program development required; Three to five years prior experience working in community settings, home settings, or school settings for special needs students ages 3-21 desired. Special Education Certification a plus.
