Job Description:Brown University's prospect research and management program is fundamental to identifying, tracking and building long-term, meaningful relationships with prospects that maximize lifelong engagement with and giving to the University. The Associate Director of Prospect Research will:

  • Provide leadership to a growing team of research analysts, including the hiring, orientation, performance management, and ongoing support for staff.
  • Oversee a robust prospect research program focused on advanced wealth analysis. Duties include the the coordination, prioritization, and review of research briefings and materials. Benchmark, establish and maintain best practice methodologies for research techniques, reporting templates, and all process documentation. Manage against deadlines and ensure overall quality of research deliverables.
  • Deliver project and operational support to the Director of Research and Prospect Development by providing project management leadership and task management oversight. The Associate Director will oversee and manage the intake, tracking, and notification process for the division's donor review process, and ensure that the outcomes are delivered to deadline and at a high standard by serving as primary reviewer. In collaboration with the Director of Research, the Associate Director will set strategic goals for the research operation, including annual quantitative and qualitative goals for program, team and individuals; and manage, evaluate and report progress towards these goals on a monthly basis.Job Qualifications Education
    • Required: Bachelor's DegreeExperience
      • Minimum five years of advancement experience in prospect management, research, fundraising, and/or market analysis, with at least two years supervisory experienceJob CompetenciesIndicate the essential job competencies.         • Demonstrated project management and problem-solving skills, including organizational skills to meet goals and objectives through effective program and project planning
        • Supervisory and management experience with ability to coach, mentor, and to tailor professional development plans for individual staff members
        • Proficiency in conducting donor research with experience in recognizing and assessing wealth indicators and giving capacity
        • Strong analytical skills; able to manipulate, analyze and synthesize data and present findings that are clear and actionable to a variety of Advancement professionals
        • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills
        • Experience working in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment and demonstrated flexibility in meeting shifting demands and priorities
        • High degree of professionalism, ethical sensitivity, confidentiality and discretion; proven ability to apply good judgment and responsible decision-making
        • Meticulous attention to detail
        • Experience within a complex development operation
        • Understanding of high net worth populations
        • Demonstrated success in managing a comprehensive research and prospect management function
        • Preference given to candidates with understanding of and competency in the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) Basic and Advanced Skill Sets
