Associate Vice President/Chief of Public Safety. The PositionReporting to the Executive Vice President, the Associate Vice President/Chief of Public Safety is responsible for the overall direction and administration of the Providence College Office of Public Safety, including crime prevention, law enforcement, emergency response, policing of special events, community policing, parking management, card access control, and various other campus community services. This position works cooperatively with all campus offices to ensure the safety and security of a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff. The Associate Vice President/Chief of Public Safety provides leadership and oversees the hiring, training, and supervision of a staff of approximately 40 directors, supervisors, investigators, public safety officers, security officers, dispatchers, and clerical support. This Associate Vice President/Chief of Public Safety ensures that the campus community is well-educated about safety and security issues, emergency management and adheres to reporting requirements as mandated by federal, state, and local agencies.. QualificationsThe successful candidate will have a master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution and a minimum of ten years of progressive supervisory experience in a law enforcement/campus security role required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful candidate will also possess knowledge and experience with a security force of sworn and non-sworn officers; knowledge of union contracts and negotiations; established record of effective leadership in a college environment; demonstrated staff supervision skills; good oral and written communication skills; excellent investigative skills; the ability to build enduring, collaborative working relationships that engender trust and respect; and evidence of an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and to promoting an inclusive campus climate..
