Job Description:
: The Dental Director contributes to the successful achievement
of PCHC's mission and strategic initiatives by providing
leadership, oversight, evaluation, and direction to clinical staff.
As a practicing dentist, the Dental Director provides preventative
and restorative services in dentistry, promoting optimum oral
health. The Dental Director meets clinical standards of
productivity as specified by the Department of Health and Human
Services and standards assessed by PCHC, based on financial and
quality standards. Partnering with the Director of Dental Services
(Admin) - Develop and implement strategies to identify and optimize
operational efficiency and effectiveness. Essential Duties &
Responsibilities:
- Provides direct care to scheduled patients and/or walk-in
patients, when necessary, per PCHC policies and state statutes and
regulations.
- Provides leadership, staffing, coordination, and evaluation of
dental clinic activities in collaboration with the Director of
Dental Services (Admin).
- Works collaboratively with the Director of Dental Services
(Admin) and Chief Medical Officer to monitor and improve processes
and outcomes of care.
- Provides dental services advice to the Director of Dental
Services (Admin) and Chief Medical Officer.
- Regularly evaluates Dental scope of services to meet the Oral
Health needs of the PCHC population.
- Participates in preparing grant applications that support
improving dental services based on population needs.
- Participates in developing an annual business plan for the
dental program.
- Works collaboratively with the Director of Dental Services to
ensure annual business and strategic goals are met.
- Review and revise policies and procedures in the dental clinic
to meet ADA Guidelines.
- Responsible for administration and monitoring standards,
policies, and procedures for areas of responsibility.
- Ensure the ethical and high-quality provision of oral health
care.
- Ensures integration of patient education into all phases of
treatment.
- Participate in scheduled meetings for case management or
quality improvement.
- Understand patient needs and ensure outstanding, efficient,
productive, and quality clinical care are met.
- Responsible for the resolution of patient grievances regarding
quality of care.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key
service provider groups.
- Contribute to and participate in practice-based advocacy.
- Participate in on-site and off-site continuing education
programs and in-service training to maintain license and meet the
patient community's need.
- Supervise interns and students (hygienists, dental assistants)
following requirements within agreement with associated dental
schools, as appropriate.
- Participate in PCHC outreach activities following PCHC Policies
and Procedures.
- Maintain client confidentiality at all levels of
interaction.
- Ensure that peer review audits are completed bi-annually on
time, and that performance evaluations are completed in
collaboration with the Director of Dental Services (Admin)
annually.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in the Dentist job
description.
- Perform other job-related duties as needed. SUPERVISORY
RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical supervision of 12-14 Dentists and 6-10
Hygienists. Carries out supervisory responsibilities following the
organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities
include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning,
assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; establishing
performance improvement plans; rewarding and disciplining
employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Education / Licensure /
Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited school of Dentistry - Doctor of
Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or
equivalent.
- MBA, MHA, MPH, or similar population health Master's level
degree is highly preferred
- Licensed to practice dentistry in the state of Rhode
Island.
- Maintain ongoing professional education and certification as
mandated by PCHC board and state regulation.
- Experience as a practicing clinician (5 years).
- Senior/director-level management experience (4 years).
- Experience in primary care setting preferred.
- Familiarity with federally qualified health centers or
FQHC
- Working in a not-for-profit organization.
- Working with low-income, multi-ethnic populations.
- Healthcare information systems, such as electronic health
record and practice management systems - Dentrix
- Experience in pediatric dentistry.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications; Word,
Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint PCHC is EOE/M/F/D/V/SO
