Job Description:Browns Division of Biology and Medicine comprised of the Program in Biology and The Warren Alpert Medical School is home to numerous centers of excellence in education, biomedical research, and clinical care. The Division is large and diverse. Currently there are 152 biology/basic science faculty, 606 medical academic faculty (employed by an affiliated hospital or practice plan) and 1,742 clinical faculty (community-based physicians) spread across five basic biology departments and 14 clinical departments. The Division is affiliated with seven diverse teaching hospitals in and around Providence, as well as HopeHealth and Brown Physicians, Inc. Staff in the Division total over 500 (including those contracted through hospital partners). There are nearly 170,000 square feet of research and academic space for Division activities. The Divisions budget is approximately $190 million spread over more than 130 cost centers.External funding for research has grown 132% since 2013, and numerous research initiatives have been established, including the Brown Institute for Translational Science (BITS). Other innovative programs include, Brown Biomedical Innovations to Impact (BBII), a proof of concept commercialization and entrepreneurial fund designed to bridge federal funding for research and private investment in a product, drug, or biologic and critical intra-university programs such as, a biomedical engineering, a collaboration with the School of Engineering have taken hold. The Division enjoys broad philanthropic support and has raised more than $225 million as part of the current BrownTogether fundraising campaign.Reporting to the Executive Dean, the Assistant Director, Project Management facilitates and supports leadership decision making and project planning, advancing and coordinating the work of the Office of the Executive Dean to promote strategic priorities and the Divisions mission. The Assistant Director prioritizes issues requiring the Dean's attention, and ensuring timely execution on matters that advance the mission/goals, objectives, and priorities of the Division of Biology & Medicine. The Assistant Director, Project Manager works closely with the Executive Dean and BioMed leadership to drive progress, ensuring critical meetings, activities and projects are designed to meet organizational objectives. The Assistant Director, Project Management is responsible for promoting transparency, policy awareness, and operational & service excellence. Additionally, the incumbent prepares briefing memos, presentations, and other materials as needed to advance strategic priorities; leads and manages special projects and initiatives; makes decisions about meeting attendees, and other day to day operational functions; assigns responsibility for project tasks and tracks progress to ensure completion; and manages/completes other duties asassigned.The Assistant Director, Project Management serves as a liaison with leaders throughout Brown, providing accurate and objective information and perspectives. The incumbent also plays a critical role in facilitating communication amongst key stakeholders and promoting and cultivating a sense of shared purpose and goals to enhance unity and overall climate. Participates in strategic scheduling of events, meetings and other requests to balance and address key objectives. Supports the preparation, accuracy, and timeliness of Dean materials, briefings, and correspondence. Develops effective systems to manage the needs of the office of the Executive Dean and to ensure adequate support at all times. Communicates professionally and effectively on behalf of the Executive Dean. Under the direction of the Executive Dean, the incumbent will serve as a representative of the Executive Dean and manage high level relationships with key constituencies and act as liaison on issues that may be sensitive in nature; serveon committees and project teams; and lead and coordinate key matters that require the attention of the executive dean.Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required with 5-7 years project management experience or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of the higher education environment and/or large research university to understand priorities, issue, motivations, and constraints preferred.
  • Possesses a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community.
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a broad array of people.
  • Service and improvement-oriented approach to work.
