Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:This position supports the work of the Y, a
leading non-profit committed to strengthening community through
youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. -
Under the guidance of the Executive -Dir. of Child Care, the Early
Childhood Director will develop, organize, and be responsible for
all aspects the early childhood programs which include Infants,
Toddler and Preschool. This position must perform program
responsibilities in accordance with the policies, goals, mission,
values and objectives established by the YMCA of Pawtucket. - -
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepare the annual budget for the center in consultation with
the Senior Executive Director of Childcare, administer the budget;
taking appropriate actions to ensure fiscal soundness.
- Trains, develops, supervises, and directs Lead Teachers and
Teacher Assistants and volunteers using the RI Workforce
Competencies related to the position.
- Manages, and coordinates the program while ensuring high
quality.
- Reviews and evaluates staff performance. - Develops strategies
to motivate staff and achieve goals
- Assures compliance with DHS, and Bright Stars as they relate to
program areas including ADA accommodations where appropriate. -
Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures
are followed.
- Provides for upkeep of assigned facility and equipment and
ensures that physical environment support healthy living.
- Maintains proper records and or files.
- Develops and maintains relationships with state child care
licensing agency.
- Responds to all parent or community complaints in a timely
manner.
- Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the program.
- Ensure program lesson plans and curriculum are developmentally
appropriate to the ages served (using the Rhode Island Early
Learning and Development Standards-RIELDS).
- Ensure child assessment data is authentic and done in a timely
manner (3 times per year)
- Conduct staff meetings/Communication with all center
staff.
- Conduct routine classroom observations to ensure staff are
meeting the goals of the program.
- Ensure center is well supplied with the materials needed for
quality.
- Create Family activities to engage families within the school
community.
- Create a monthly Family Newsletter to inform families about
what is happening in the school.
- Participate in all Staff and Quality Childcare Meeting.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding staff, families and children
at all times.
- Create a welcoming environment as families enter the
building.
- Personally build relationships with the families through daily

QUALIFICATIONS (ALSO CALLED ENTRY REQUIREMENTS OR KNOW HOW):
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent
- At least 24 credits in Early Childhood preferred
- Must have a minimum of 2 year of related experience as a
Coordinator or Supervisor of an Early Childhood program; 3 or more
years preferred;
- Must meet DHS requirements prior to start date
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Obtain CPR/ First Aid with 3 months of hire
- RIELDS certification preferred or ability to obtain with first
year
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from
all social and economic segments of the community

- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for
long periods of time.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
- Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in
weight.
- Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to
20 pounds.
- Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several
hours at a time.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and
walking.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations
and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
- Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.
