Job Description:
Summary:The Administrative Director Inpatient Nursing and
Respiratory Care reports to the Senior Vice President Patient Care
Services/Chief Nursing Officer. Plans directs and evaluates
site-specific inpatient and respiratory care services. Directs the
development implementation and continuous evaluation of organized
and integrated programs for all inpatient nurses. Focuses on
achieving successful programmatic development to support and
maintain Magnet designation status.Responsibilities:Develops and
recommends short and long-term goals for inpatient nursing and
respiratory care services at The Miriam Hospital in consideration
of Lifespan---s mission its values and key business objectives.
Provides sponsorship to the function by identifying resources
required to achieve the operating results and advocates for them
during resource allocation. Develops recommends implements and
monitors capital and operating budgets for The Miriam Hospital
inpatient nursing and respiratory care. Directs the effective
utilization of resources (people financial material and equipment)
to meet established goals and objectives of Lifespan and The Miriam
Hospital. Establishes operating priorities to ensure activities
support the organization's strategies while maintaining fiscal
responsibility. Ensures effective recruitment selection development
and evaluation of managerial professional and support staff to
optimize achievement of goals and objectives.Plans designs develops
and implements customer-focused coordinated delivery of inpatient
nursing and respiratory care. Collaborates and consults with peers
and colleagues by defining functional standards and translating
them into usable applications and/or care patterns. Participates in
development and assessment of new programs that support the
hospitals strategic goals; assesses market position and provides
analysis for decision-making process; participates in the
development of related business plans.Promotes effective planning
and coordination of inpatient nursing and respiratory services with
physicians other departments and outside agencies. Ensures all
activities support established clinical standards of care meet or
exceed patient care quality standards are in compliance with
various regulatory agencies and consider age-specific needs of the
patient populations served.Interprets implements and provides
consultation for inpatient nursing and respiratory care services
philosophy policy procedures and standards of practice specific to
The Miriam Hospital. Develops implements and evaluates programs and
services to consistently meet or exceed customer needs through
effective continuous quality improvement practices. Maintains
compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.Collaborates
with human resources development staff to identify needs and
develop programs to provide for continuous development of
staff.Serves as role model to staff by continuously demonstrating
Lifespan---s values and principles. Creates and maintains effective
positive customer service relationships by identifying customers
and their needs ensuring the needs are met or exceeded and
responding appropriately to difficult interactions and educating
the staff on the importance of quality customer service.
Effectively and continually communicates with the staff management
and customer to facilitate the flow of information necessary to
ensure the success of employees department functions and the
organization. Provides for effective employee relations to promote
employee-manager effectiveness and satisfaction in the workplace.
Ensures compliance with human resources policies. Creates employee
ownership for his/her career and success and provides staff with
positive and actionable feedback to maximize the utilization and
potential of the organization---s human resources.Facilitates
continuous performance improvement by encouraging innovation
supporting reasonable risk-taking and maintaining openness to new
ideas.Maintains the advanced practitioner level of knowledge of
leading edge developments in the field of nursing by participation
in ongoing independent study education-related professional
activities and affiliations. Participates in or leads various
committees task forces and quality improvement teams as

reports and staffQUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION:Bachelor---s degree in
nursing from accredited college or university; Master---s degree in
Nursing or related field such as healthcare administration or the
equivalent. Thorough knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act of the
State of Rhode Island. Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse
in the State of Rhode Island .Demonstrates knowledge and skills
necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with
consideration of aging processes human development stages and
sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care
process.QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE:Five years or more of
progressively more responsible related experience preferably gained
in a similarly diverse and operationally complex healthcare
environment. Experience should demonstrate a very high level of
written and oral communication skills; ability to conceptualize
develop and affect quality nursing services; effective
leadership/management skills and commitment to continuous quality
improvement. SUPERVISION:Supervision of up to 30 leadership
positions. Supervision includes hiring evaluating and counseling;
responsibilities include administrative and clinical
