Summary:
Reports to the Executive Vice President Chief Clinical Officer and indirectly to the chief medical officers (CMOs) of each affiliate in the system. In collaboration with the CMOs and clinical leadership of the medical staff develops organizes directs and manages the provision of comprehensive medical staff services for the organization including the integrated operation of all information systems in support of the credentialing and appointment/reappointment of medical staff members and advanced practice professionals at all Lifespan affiliate hospitals. Responsibilities:
Plans designs develops and implements the customer-focused and coordinated delivery of medical staff services at the academic medical center sites in support of the appointment reappointment privileging and re-privileging of physicians and advanced practice professionals to the medical staffs at Lifespan affiliate hospitals. Coordinates the ongoing collaborative multi-site assessment of the delivery of medical staff services and manages the implementation of changes to operations which ensure the provision of optimum productivity efficacy and error reduction. Ensures compliance with The Joint Commission standards and Medical Staff Bylaws and other policies. In collaboration with the chief medical officers clinical department chiefs directs the periodic development implementation and evaluation of strategies for the integrated operation of medical staff services in consideration of the organization---s key operating objectives and related initiatives in support of the Lifespan mission and its resource allocation and utilization objectives. Collaborates and consults with peers and colleagues in ensuring the planning for and coordinated development of the operating and capital budgets for the Medical Staff Services Department. Regularly monitors and directs the analysis of budget trends and variances; prepares analyzes or reviews various financial statistical and narrative reports depicting actual or potential changes to services or programs. Supports the provision of quality services through the development implementation and evaluation of goals standards policies and processes designed to consistently meet or exceed customer's' needs to attain the function's service delivery objectives and to provide leadership in the attainment of relevant quality standards. Interprets and implements the Lifespan policy and practice for the provision of medical staff credentialing services at Lifespan affiliate hospitals including the development and operation of automated and manual information management and documentation systems and the Lifespan medical staff data bases. Provides administrative support and project/event planning and execution for the medical staff associations at Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital in consultation with the staff association leadership.-- Provides support Medical Executive Committees and MEC leadership at RIH and TMH. Manages and directs the budgets of the Medical Staff Associations at RIH and TMH. Regularly monitors and directs the analysis of budget trends and variances; prepares analyzes or reviews various financial statistical and narrative reports depicting actual or potential changes to services or programs. Serves as a role model by affirmatively demonstrating Lifespan's values and principles creating and maintaining positive relationships with internal and external customers identifying customers and their needs responding appropriately in difficult or sensitive situations and educating personnel in the techniques and methods of quality customer service. Effectively communicates with all stakeholders to facilitate the flow of information necessary to the success of the function and the organization.-- Ensures the regular communication with and effective recruitment selection development assignment supervision and appraisal of a motivated and productive support staff. Effectuates employee and labor relations philosophies policies and programs to maximize the levels of employee effectiveness and satisfaction in the workplace. Actively promotes employee ownership of careers providing staff with recognition and constructive feedback maximizing the utilization and potential of the organization's human resources and promoting the delivery of programs to provide for employees' work-related developmental needs. Promotes teamwork and participative problem-solving processes in the function's operations planning decision-making and delivery of medical staff services to create a function that anticipates change responds effectively encourages innovation supports reasonable risk-taking and maintains openness to new ideas. Maintains the advanced professional's level of knowledge of and expertise in leading edge developments in the field of medical staff services their administration and accreditation by participating in ongoing self-development independent study and professional activities and affiliations. Participates in or leads various committees task forces and quality improvement teams as needed. Other information:
EDUCATION: Bachelors degree required or equivalent years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree. Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) required.--
EXPERIENCE:Five or more years of progressively more responsible experience related to medical staff services programming in an integrated health system preferably in a similarly diverse and operationally complex academic medical center. Demonstration of a high level of written and oral communication skills and the ability to conceptualize develop and manage services.An advanced professional---s level of applied knowledge of current practices in administration undergraduate graduate and continuing medical education programming library services and related accreditation and legal standards and demonstrated success in the integrated deployment and optimization of electronic documentation and recordkeeping systems.Experience should demonstrate an exemplary level of written and oral communication skills and the ability to conceptualize plan develop manage and evaluate services in support of medical staff services.Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) required.SUPERVISION:Supervisory responsibility for up to 20 FTEs including their selection training development and evaluation.-- Lifespan is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action employer.
