our mission. Engineering Manager - AI Services (BearQ) Hybrid
in-office, Somerville, MA We’re looking for a manager to provide
technical guidance and career growth mentorship to a full-stack
engineering team building an AI-native and autonomous application
testing platform named BearQ. The team has a mix of junior and
senior engineers with demonstrated ability to perform at a high
level and deliver a quality product fast. Front-end: TypeScript,
Vue, HTML/CSS Back-end: Typescript Infra: AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, ECS)
Product intro SmartBear’s BearQ platform (
https://smartbear.com/product/bearq/ ) delivers autonomous
application testing using AI-native QA agents who explore,
understand, validate and report on the application. BearQ agents
are always-on and continuously adapt their understanding of the
application as it evolves over time. BearQ agents can work
alongside established QA teams to augment the team’s work, or they
can operate independently to comprehensively test an application.
BearQ was built entirely in-house from scratch by a small but
powerful team of full-stack engineers with expertise in agentic AI
and distributed systems. Combining Vision Language Models and
asynchronous systems, BearQ agents can test applications across the
device spectrum in a highly scalable and tunable way. About the
role As an Engineering Manager you will promote a culture of
collaboration and innovation leading to success. Your direct
reports will be junior and senior engineers in the U.S., with a mix
of onsite and remote employees. You will report to the VP of AI and
Architecture. In this role, you are expected to: Direct the
technical work for a team of software engineers ranging from
front-end to back-end, and junior to senior experience levels. Take
a proactive approach to improving the entire software development
life-cycle. Leverage modern best practices (e.g., Agile) to manage
the delivery of software through continuous deployment, integration
and test-driven development, including issue triaging, planning and
assigning based on experience and skills. Collaborate
cross-functionally with external teams to build relationships that
deliver on company goals. Work effectively with product managers,
engineers and leadership to grow your team and most effectively
meet aggressive business outcomes. Synthesize customer feedback and
advise on technical designs for new features. Determine processes
and metrics to ensure products are market ready. You will not be
expected to author code in this role, but it is required that you
maintain a concrete technical understanding of our system and the
information flow throughout it. We are looking for you if you have:
3 years managing software development scrum teams Experience in a
SaaS-based company with some remote employees At least one year as
software engineer in a production role Ability to turn high-level
requirements into actionable plans with projected target dates

also include a performance bonus plan. The base salary range for
this role is listed below . Actual compensation is determined based
on several factors, including relevant experience, skills, internal
equity, and geographic location. Estimated Base Salary Range
$193,050 - $214,500 USD
