Marks is hiring a Quality Control Specialist (Design) for our Marks Rhode Island studiolocated in Providence!Primary PurposeThe purpose of this role is to support the Sr. Quality Manager in providing technical print support, enforce flawless execution, high quality standards and consistency of packaging print ready artwork file development and release. The Quality Control Specialist is an integral member of the team, building partnerships and collaboration with key stakeholders across agency, client and vendor teams. You will help to support the Sr. Quality Manager, work closely with the Production Designers and Project Managers to ensure vendors are providing necessary assets, printer regulations and specifications for the team to effectively develop and release artwork files that meet the client's business needs from our near site agency office.In the face of demanding deadlines, multiple, rapidly changing priorities, you will support and exhibit behaviors consistent with Marks values and beliefs in a fiscally responsible manner. Marks philosophy: Design integrity, Technical accuracy and Speed to market.Reporting ToSr. Quality Manager and Group Account DirectorGeneral OverviewThe Quality Control Specialist will work closely with the Sr. Quality Manager, Group Account Director, Creative Director, Designers and Production Designers in developing and enforcing print production best practices that ensure artwork file development and release meet printer specifications, industry standards and client expectations. Proactively liaison with the team and vendors to address any artwork file or print quality concerns. Collaborate with the team to ensure artwork files are accurately developed to best achieve print quality consistency across various vendors and manufacturing countries. Establish vendor relationships and earn vendor and agency teams respect as their knowledgeable, key resource, point of contact and partner.ResponsibilitiesQUALITY ASSURANCE AND PROCESS MANAGEMENTLiaison with external service provider GMI to understand and ensure defined client color standards and quality expectations are adhered to, consistently met and enforced with vendorsPartner with external vendors and printers to understand print specification needsMaintain awareness of brand standards, regulatory requirements/updates and client workflowBecome proficient on brand colors and style guidelines to effectively advise on print specifications needed to best achieve desired reproduction print quality and consistency based on a range of substrates and manufacturer capabilitiesPartner with the Sr. Quality Manager, Project Managers, Designers and Production Designers to develop and support vendor pre-production deck development and meetings to help set and enforce print quality expectations with vendors in advance of releasing artwork files, as neededEscalate any vendor or design/artwork quality issues or concerns to the Sr. Quality Manager, Account and Creative Directors and proactively propose solutions to effectively address or mitigate problems and propose thought-out, effective and cost efficient solutions for considerationParticipate in and support agency business objectives appropriate to role (quality objectives, company policies Marks "one way of working")Support Sr. Quality Manager in review/QC audit of final printed material on a monthly basis, document and address with the vendors any quality concerns where less than desirable results were identified and report to the client any quality concerns and solutions to address in a concise and timely mannerQUALITY CONTROL AND REVIEWSEnsure all Production Designers are following Quality protocols, Marks "one way of working" best practices, identify and escalate any concerns to Sr Quality ManagerReview and confirm file setup accuracy for effective hand-off to manufacturer (deline sizes, conversion to CMYK, Spot color, special finishes, layers setup, image links and print specs are clearly defined, slug completed properly)Review artwork files to confirm:regulatory and printer requirements (type size to regulatory and minimum type. Line thickness accordingly, to specs supplied, NFT calculations, warnings, holdbacks)color rotations and number of colors are correct as per work orderimage bleeds, roll overs and panel cross match are accurateoverprints, knockoutsUPC code readsconsistency of brand Style Guide and other products across the category portfolio are metthat commons have been identified and executed correctlyEnforce folder structure consistency and ensure all required files associated with a job are placed in the correct folders within the required folder structureReview color match proofs being released to vendors, and review and approve vendor prepress pdf files to ensure proper separation and contract color proofs to ensure reproduction of desired design intent and color accuracy to provided color match proofProvide Vendor feedback as required for prepress PDFs or contract color proof corrections or clarification and provide oversight to ensure quality concerns are effectively addressedKeep Designer Leads informed and engaged on any print quality concerns related to their specific categories and/or get their feedback to solve any color/print quality issues asapUpdate as needed the Quality Control checklist according to Marks Best Practices and CVS business needsTECHNICAL MANAGEMENTResponsible for providing oversight of the artwork file development quality and training Production Artists and Designers as needed on best practices for releasing print ready artwork filesProactively collaborate with manufacturers to request print tests in advance, make necessary adjustments to artwork files to achieve desired outcome and attend press checks, as needed based on print complexityEducation & Experience RequirementsMinimum 5+ years of relevant Production and Quality Assurance experience in a Design Agency, Prepress or Printer environmentKnowledge of Packaging Design requirements, Production assembly, Production art rollouts and CFIA and FDA regulationsStrong knowledge of prepress processesExperience with Flexo, Litho and Gravure printing processes as it applies to production artExperience printing with and on various substrates, inks and finishesDemonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence technical print production, quality and vendor decisions, credibly and effectively at all levels of the organization across both agency and client teamsExperience in delivering client-focused solutions based on Quality and Technical needsSuperior organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple projects at a time, while paying strict attention to the details and adhering to brand guidelines, and meeting deadlinesExcellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbalOpen to a flexible work scheduleProficient using Mac OS, Microsoft Products, Adobe Illustrator, PhotoshopIdeal Candidate Will PossessIndependently driven, desire to continuously learn, raise the bar and succeedDemonstrate resiliency working in a high-volume, fast-paced, constantly changing creative environmentProactive problem solver with strong knowledge of print reproduction Quality and vendor managementAbility to construct workable solutions when presented with multiple and, often times, conflicting points of viewUnflappable, ability to bring a sense of focus and calm assurance to high-energy interactionsCreative and innovative thinkingA collaborative team oriented approach to working and keeping all parties informedCompassion, honesty and an ability to develop trust with both internal and client teamsA sense of humor and have passion for your jobEqual Opportunity Employer/Protected Veterans/Individuals with DisabilitiesThe contractor will not discharge or in any other manner discriminate against employees or applicants because they have inquired about, discussed, or disclosed their own pay or the pay of another employee or applicant.
